The Ultimate Custard Square Hunt - KB Bakery and Cafe, Newmarket, Auckland

Today's post is from my friend Belinda, who inspired the custard square series by sending me random text messages rating custard squares, and who was disappointed that we made it all the way to Hamilton last weekend but didn't stretch to Auckland. ;-)

Belinda says: This custard square (the sign actually said 'custard slice'...) was bought from KB Bakery & Cafe in Newmarket (480 Broadway, Newmarket, Auckland). 

The custard was delicious, smooth, not too sweet and not at all gelatinous. The pastry was flaky, not chewy, and broke easily when forked/bitten so as not to force the custard out sideways. The icing was thick and perfectly sweetened. I rate this one 8.5/10

8.5/10 is high praise - I'm not sure to be impressed or overwhelmed by the thick icing on that thing, but now I know where I need to visit next time I'm up north! Aucklanders take note... (and thanks to Belinda for her custard square analysis - it's all for the cause!)
